Scientific Research
   High performance research is essential to the excellence of the School of Software. One of the great strengths of Xidian University has been its ability to push empirical computer science ideas from theory to practical applications in the field of Avionics, Satellite navigation and positioning system, Telecommunication and Intelligent transportation, continuously testing new fundamental insights by constructing large critical systems in which they are embodied. In the past 10 years, our faculties have pioneered empirical research in the areas of (1) high dependability software engineering methodology and technology, (2) dynamic environment oriented software engineering modeling and technology, (4) software service engineering and (4)embedded software engineering methodology and technology.


Research areas
High dependability software engineering methodology and technology
   The School has long been active in research on software testing, bug-tracking, program analysis and code optimization for energy and latency. Various national funding research projects provide the scientific and funding context for collaboration within leading research labs. Our software tools have been applied to R&D of critical avionics systems with encouraging results. Papers have been published in leading international conferences and journals such as ACSAC、ASE、WCRE、ECRTS、Journal of VLSI.
Dynamic environment oriented software engineering modeling and technology
The school has put great efforts to dynamic environment oriented software engineering; examples are agent-based software engineering for complex distributed systems, data analysis and mining on dynamic, multiple-layered complex network. Agent-based distributed simulation has been employed to virtual prototype systems for avionics system construction. Papers have been published in leading international conferences and journals such as IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, PLoS ONE, Elsevier Physica A: Statistical Mechanisms and its Applications, INFORMATION, An International Interdisciplinary Journal and ACM Conference on Information and Knowledge Management
Software service engineering
  In the past 5 years, the School focused on service-oriented computing and software engineering. Researchers in this area interested in applying service-oriented computing on mission critical systems such as military systems. Many promising methodologies and tools have been developed and put into practice. Papers have been published in leading international conferences and journals such as Expert System and its Application, International Conference on Software Maintenance (ICSM), International Conference on Web Service (ICWS) and International Conference on Service Oriented Computing (ICSOC).
Embedded software engineering methodology and technology
Embedded software engineering methodology and technology is an important research area of the School. It focused on constructing so called “embedded cloud computer” on multiple and many cores, video tagging, intelligent analysis and modeling. Another active research topic is wireless sensor networks (WSN), including barrier coverage, data venue planning, and reliable & energy-efficient network protocol for WSN. Papers have been published in leading conferences and journals such as EUC, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, NEUROCOMPUTING and J. Embedded Computing.
 

Research Team
  There are more than 40 very talent faculty members and energetic graduate students in the School. They have solid computer science foundations and rich software engineering experience. More than 9 faculty members visited well-known universities in USA and UK, such as Georgia Tech, Wayne State and Johns Hopkins.
